Asbestos was used in building materials from the 1950s to the 1980s as a fire-proof and insulation material.

When left in place in our properties, asbestos poses little risk to tenants.

But if disturbed - during maintenance or refurbishment - the asbestos fibres can present a risk to your health.

Please note, new materials fitted to council homes after 2000 do not contain asbestos.

How to reduce the risks

  • Do not repair or remove materials which you believe may contain asbestos.
  • Do not cut, break, saw, drill or sand materials which you believe may contain asbestos.
