Apprentices meet the leader
APPRENTICES at Rugby Borough Council had a chance to quiz the leader during a special meeting at the Town Hall.

The Meet the Leader event was organised by Cllr Michael Stokes, who was keen to hear about the apprentices' experiences since starting work at the council and their ambitions for the future.
The event also gave the apprentices the chance to ask the leader of the council questions - from how the council makes decisions to how he entered the world of work.
Cllr Stokes said: "After my A levels I started a management training scheme in retail, so I understand the benefits of work-based training.
"The Meet the Leader event was an opportunity to find out how working at the council had helped the apprentices gain valuable work experience and learn new skills while being able to study for vital qualifications."
The council launched its business administration apprentice programme in 2012, with apprentices combining work at the Town Hall with studies at Rugby College.
The council also offers apprenticeships in carpentry, plumbing, mechanics, horticulture and arboriculture.
Cllr Stokes said the council was committed to offering young people opportunities.
"It's important to invest in young people and offer them the opportunity to gain experience and skills while increasing their chances of getting a job," Cllr Stokes said.
"The council also benefits greatly from the enthusiasm and energy apprentices bring to the Town Hall."
Cllr Stokes presented each apprentice with a Christmas card and a voucher, supported by Rugby First's Voucher Scheme, at the end of the meeting.
