Brownsover park revamp secures £50,000 grant

Plans for the revamp were drawn up by the council earlier this year following consultations with community organisations, schools and residents in Brownsover.

The £200,000 refurbishment includes a new skatepark, expanded play area and a new multi-use games area (MUGA) suitable for football, basketball, cricket and other sports.

Work on the revamp has now started, with the new MUGA - funded by the grant from SUEZ - and council-funded play area earmarked for completion before Christmas.

New play equipment set to be installed includes a zip wire, climber with monkey bars, roundabout, see-saw, swings and a trampoline.

Work on the council-funded skatepark begins in the new year and looks set to be completed by the spring.

Cllr Lisa Parker, Rugby Borough Council portfolio holder for environment and public realm, said: "Hollowell Way park has always been popular with residents and I'm delighted the Brownsover community has taken such an active role in helping us draw up plans for the refurbishment.

"It's a major investment by the council and I'm delighted SUEZ Communities Trust has once again supported our commitment to improving Rugby's parks and green spaces by backing the project with a £50,000 grant."

SUEZ Communities Trust, formerly SITA Trust, provides funding for community and environmental improvement projects through the Landfill Communities Fund.

An independent body, SUEZ has supported projects to the tune of more than £1.4 billion since its launch in 1997.

Marianne Ivin, of SUEZ Communities Trust, said: "This is an exciting project which we are delighted to be part of.

"The multi-use games area will be a useful addition to the many improvements happening within the park."
