Cllr Deepah Roberts appointed Mayor of Rugby

COUNCILLOR Deepah Roberts has become the new Mayor of Rugby.
28 maja 2021

Cllr Roberts was appointed Mayor at Rugby Borough Council's annual meeting on Thursday 20 May.

Cllr Chris Cade was appointed Deputy Mayor.

Cllr Roberts has represented the Dunsmore Ward since 2014. She has chosen 'respect and protect the environment' as the theme for her term of office, focusing on tackling climate change and the need for individuals to respect the environment for others.

Cllr Roberts has nominated Rugby for Heroes and the Guide Dogs for the Blind Training Centre in Leamington Spa as her Mayoral charities.

Rugby for Heroes works with the rugby community to raise funds and awareness for military personnel making the transition to civilian life.

The charity celebrates the core values of both the armed forces and the game - leadership, teamwork, commitment, discipline, courage, respect, loyalty and camaraderie.

The Guide Dogs for the Blind Training Centre in Leamington Spa opened in 1941 and trains 220 dogs a year.

In addition to training guide dogs, the centre also raises awareness about the charity's life-changing work by offering tours to schools and families.

Cllr Roberts said: "I am honoured to have been appointed Rugby's first citizen and want to take the opportunity to promote the ideas of togetherness, unity and acceptance throughout my Mayoral year.

"In addition to supporting my charities, I am looking forward to meeting many of Rugby's residents and visiting places across the borough as we continue on the path of pandemic recovery."
