The Corporate Strategy 2025-2035, set to be considered by the council's cabinet at a meeting on Monday (4 November), outlines a vision to create a sustainable economy where residents, businesses and the natural environment thrive.

Cllr Michael Moran, leader of Rugby Borough Council, said the strategy had a clear, simple mission - to shape the borough to be a better place to live, a genuinely thriving borough we're all proud to call home.

"Our passion for Rugby and its villages drive this Corporate Strategy, placing our communities at its core," Cllr Moran said.

"As a new administration, we have worked to ensure the strategy has been written in plain English to provide clear guidance on where we want the borough to be in 2035.

"It provides the framework for all of the council's policies to follow," Cllr Moran added.

"Most importantly, the strategy will have a core business plan sitting behind it which will be reviewed and assessed each year."

The strategy focuses on the following four key priorities:

  • A Healthier Rugby - to support residents to live healthier, longer and more independent lives
  • A Thriving Rugby - to deliver a thriving economy which brings borough-wide investment and regenerates the town centre
  • A Greener Rugby - to protect the environment and ensure the borough adapts to climate change
  • A Fairer Rugby - to reduce inequalities and improve housing across the borough

For each key priority, the strategy sets out what the council plans to achieve and how it plans to achieve it, while also defining successful outcomes.

A delivery plan for the strategy looks set to be agreed each year when the council sets its budget to make sure resources can be allocated to achieve the strategy's ambitions.

The council also intends to publish updates on the delivery of the Corporate Strategy in an annual report, outlining progress and refining strategic priorities, as required, for the following year.

Cllr Jerry Roodhouse, leader of Rugby Borough Council's Liberal Democrat group, said: "We welcome the production of this Corporate Strategy, which outlines a joint vision for Rugby borough.

"By working together, we have produced a road map which will deliver for residents.

"Our task now is to turn this strategy into a reality," Cllr Roodhouse added. "Rugby is a place I'm proud to call home and this strategy will be able to make it even better."
