The cultural venue picked up the title at the recent Coventry and Warwickshire Tourism and Culture awards at a ceremony held at Coombe Abbey, beating off competition from visitor attractions across the region.

Rugby Art Gallery and Museum, located in the heart of Rugby town centre and also home to the World Rugby Hall of Fame and visitor centre, holds regular exhibitions of modern art and vibrant displays from its collection of Roman and social history objects.

The venue organises a range of activities for children and families, including the weekly Little Discoveries which takes place every week for the under 5s, and the annual Night at Your Museum, which this year featured a stargazing astronomy theme. Other activities include holiday activities, arts award course and educational visits for schools.

During 2016, the art gallery and museum saw 5677 children take part in organised activities, on top of casual visits.

Cllr Heather Timms, Rugby Borough Council portfolio holder for growth and investment, said: "I am incredibly proud to have collected this award on behalf of the council and the team at Rugby Art Gallery and Museum.

The art gallery staff are enthusiastic and hard working, and the feedback they get from the children and families they work with demonstrates that this award is well deserved."
