Mayor welcomes ambassador to the World Rugby Hall of Fame

ARGENTINA'S ambassador to the United Kingdom visited the World Rugby Hall of Fame during a visit to the birthplace of the game.

Renato Carlos Sersale di Cerisano was guest of honour at the Rugby World Cup Schools Tag Rugby tournament, which brought 16 borough primary schools together on Friday (4 October) at St Andrew's Rugby Club.

Mr di Cerisano was joined at the tournament by the Mayor of Rugby, Cllr Bill Lewis, Rugby MP, Mark Pawsey, and Wasps Premiership rugby stars Tom West and Theo Vukasinovic.

HoF ambassadorThe tournament was organised by St Marie's Catholic Primary School and each school represented one of the countries competing in the Rugby World Cup in Japan.

The final saw St Marie's, representing France, take on Dunchurch Boughton Junior School, who flew the flag for Italy.

Dunchurch narrowly triumphed 3-2, with both teams invited to watch Wasps take on London Irish later this month at Coventry's Ricoh Arena.

Following the tournament, Mr di Cerisano joined Cllr Lewis on a tour of the World Rugby Hall of Fame, which counts Argentinian legends Hugo Porta, Agustin Pichot and Felipe Contepomi among its inductees.

Cllr Lewis said: "It was a pleasure to meet the Argentine ambassador and accompany him on a tour of the World Rugby Hall of Fame.

"We enjoyed a great day celebrating rugby in the birthplace of the game, and I'd like to congratulate St Marie's Catholic Primary School for organising such a fantastic tournament."
