New exhibition explores the possibilities of paper

The winner of the Rugby Open 2013 exhibition launches her debut solo showcase on Saturday 20 June, presenting artworks which demonstrate her distinctive brand of paper-engineering.

Clare makes intricate and complex pieces from simple sheets of paper, cutting, folding and layering each sheet to create stunning geometric designs and patterns.

By combining precision paper-cutting with bold colours, the pieces have a hypnotic sense of depth and movement which draw the viewer in.

In addition to her hand cut work, Clare has experimented with laser cutting to produce a series of pieces which resemble lace, with layers of white paper enhanced by light and shadow to ethereal effect.

Her work has attracted international attention, with famous French luxury brand Hermes commissioning pieces for an exhibition of its porcelain collections in Paris.

Clare also contributed to television presenter Kirstie Allsopp's book, Kirstie's Christmas Crafts, and has collaborated on projects for London-based jewellery designer Laura Lee.

Her exhibition runs at Rugby Art Gallery and Museum's Floor One Gallery from Saturday 20 June to Thursday 9 July.

Rugby Art Gallery and Museum opens from 10am to 5pm, Tuesday to Friday, and 10am to 4pm on Saturdays.
