Packed programme for first Rugby Inter Faith Week

The week runs from Sunday 16 November to Saturday 22 November, and aims to strengthen inter faith relations and raise awareness of Rugby's different faith communities.

A number of places of worship hold 'open door' events for the public during the week, with Rugby Mosque, in Grosvenor Road, welcoming visitors from 7pm to 8pm on Monday 17 November and the Shree Kalyan Mandal, in Kimberley Road, open to the public from 4pm to 7pm on Tuesday 18 November.

Open door events also take place at the Guru Nanak Gurdwara, in Craven Road (4pm to 7.30pm on Wednesday 19 November), and St Marie's Catholic Church, in Oak Street (2pm to 4pm on Thursday 20 November, with a guided tour at 3pm).

The Bishop of Warwick, the Right Reverend John Stroyan, attends an open meeting of Rugby Inter Faith at the Guru Nanak Gurdwara from 6.30pm on Wednesday 19 November.

And at 3pm on Friday 21 November, Rugby Art Gallery and Museum hosts an Afternoon of Stories, with a number of guest story-tellers revealing tales from different faiths.

Rugby Inter Faith Week closes with a Community Bring a Plate and Sing-Along Session at St Andrew's Church on Saturday 22 November.

Residents can take a plate of traditional, vegetarian finger-food to the event and join in the fun from 2pm.

Rugby Inter Faith Week has been organised by the Mayor of Rugby, Cllr Ramesh Srivastava, and the Rugby Inter Faith Working Group.

Cllr Srivastava said: "Inter Faith Week celebrates the diversity of our community and encourages a greater understanding of the different faith communities in our borough.

"The week aims to bring the community together in the spirit of friendship, celebrating both our differences and our commonality.

"Residents can be sure of a warm welcome at all of the events throughout the week."

Inter Faith Week was launched in 2009 by the Inter Faith Network.
