Pilot affordable warmth project for Benn ward
Pilot affordable warmth project for Benn ward
The pilot project, supported by Rugby Borough Council in partnership with Act on Energy and the Rugby Credit Union, will cover the area between Railway Terrace, Bridge Street, Abbey Street and Clifton Road. Research shows that residents in this area are more likely to have difficulties heating their homes than anywhere else in the borough.
Householders that sign up to the pilot may be eligible for large discounts on energy efficient boilers or grants towards the cost of cavity wall or loft insulation. They may also be able to benefit from a free boiler service, better energy tariffs and Warm Home discounts.
Households within the pilot area will receive a letter explaining how they can find out if they are eligible for help, and who to contact.
Cllr Leigh Hunt, Rugby Borough Council portfolio holder for sustainable, inclusive communities, said: "Inefficient homes waste energy and money, can affect health and need increased maintenance. I very much hope that this pilot project will help to improve the quality of life for residents who may otherwise struggle to heat their homes.
"Along with building new affordable homes and improving the efficiency of council housing, this scheme is just one of a number of ways that Rugby Borough Council is working with partners to improve the affordability of housing in the borough."
For more information on the pilot project contact Act on Energy on their Freephone number 0800 988 2881. Alternatively, there will be an energy advice session at the Town Hall on 11 March.
If successful, the project could be extended to other parts of the borough.
