Proud Home welcomes new piece of public art

The Pass was created by environmental artist David Gosling, the man behind the town's iconic wire donkey sculptures which stand in the paddock at the bottom of Newbold Road.

The wire sculpture of a rugby player carrying a ball was commissioned by Rugby Borough Council ahead of Rugby World Cup 2015.

The Pass takes pride of place on the Whitehall Road roundabout - creating a striking centrepiece to the traditional floral display.

The sculpture forms part of the council's programme of enhancements for the borough as Rugby prepares to welcome thousands of visitors to the Proud Home of the game.

And Cllr Heather Timms, Rugby Borough Council portfolio holder for economy, development and culture, revealed further public art works were set to be unveiled before Rugby World Cup 2015 kicks-off in September.

Cllr Timms said: "With thousands of rugby fans from all over the world set to make the pilgrimage to the Proud Home of the game during this special year, we want Rugby to be at its very best.

"We have a wide range of enhancements planned, improving the borough for Rugby World Cup 2015 and beyond.

"While we're determined to celebrate Rugby World Cup 2015 and make the most of the opportunities it brings, it's also important residents have a home to be proud of for years to come."
