Simpler recycling
Simpler recycling
In 2024 the UK Government announced reforms to the way we recycle, to make it simpler and easier for residents and businesses to recycle well.
Residents
• Rugby Borough Council will be introducing a separate food waste collection to all households before April 2026. Until then, you can continue to put food waste in your green bin if you have one, or otherwise in your black bin.
• Plastic bags and films will be included in your recycling collection before April 2027. Until then, they can either be recycled at your nearest supermarket or placed in your black bin.
Businesses
• Businesses with more than 10 employees must arrange separate collections for recycling and food waste before April 2025. Rugby Borough Council offers a recycling service for businesses, but currently we are not offering a food waste collection service.
• Businesses with less than 10 employees have until April 2027 to make these changes
What do I need to do?
For residents of Rugby Borough, we will communicate the upcoming changes in plenty of time. You can stay on top of how to correctly dispose of 1000’s of items by checking our recycling directory.
Businesses should be preparing for the changes now by reviewing your waste requirements and arranging collections. A detailed guide for all business owners can be found here. To enquire about our waste services, follow the link to ‘Commercial Waste Collection’.
