30th Signal Regiment donates money to Mayor's charities

The 30th Signals, based at Bramcote Station, raised the cash at the regiment's open day in July.

The annual event takes place at the barracks near Nuneaton and attracts thousands of visitors.

Entertainment at this year's open day included displays by the Knights of the Crusades and the Company of Horsemen, motorcycle stunt riders, performances by military bands, and football and tug of war competitions.

The event raised a grand total of £10,948 for good causes and Cllr Tom Mahoney, a guest at the event, was invited back to the barracks on Thursday (2 August) to be presented with a cheque for £3,649.

Cllr Mahoney, who served with the Queen's Hussars cavalry regiment, intends to split the 30th Signals' donation between his Mayoral charities - the Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Families Association (SSAFA), and Coventry and Warwickshire Mind.

"It was an honour to attend the Bramcote Station Open Day and officially open the event," Cllr Mahoney said.

"In addition to entertainment, the event gives the community a chance to explore the barracks and find out about the work carried out by the 30th Signal Regiment, and I'd like to thank commanding officer Lieutenant Colonel Mike Fayers and his team at Bramcote for such a generous donation to my charities."
