CEMEX donates £1,000 to Mayor's charity
THE Mayor of Rugby's charity has received a £1,000 boost from CEMEX.
20 January 2014
Cllr Anthony Gillias was presented with a cheque from the CEMEX Foundation when he visited the firm's Rugby Cement Plant on Wednesday 8 January.
The Mayor has chosen to support St Cross Prostate Cancer Care during his year in office.
The charity aims to launch a prostate cancer clinic at the Hospital of St Cross, reducing the time it takes to provide a diagnosis and helping patients avoid trips to Coventry's University Hospital during the early stages of treatment.
Cllr Gillias said: "I am extremely grateful to the CEMEX Foundation for the generous donation to St Cross Prostate Cancer Care.
"It's important to have diagnostic facilities available at St Cross, together with help and support from health professionals.
"A successful appeal will speed up diagnosis and mean local men no longer need to travel to Coventry for tests."
The CEMEX Foundation supports a wide range of charities and community projects in Rugby.
Ian Southcott, CEMEX's community affairs manager, said: "The CEMEX Foundation is delighted to be able to support the Mayor's charity this year with a donation of £1,000.
"As Cllr Gillias has pointed out, having early diagnosis of prostate cancer is vital in treating the disease and saving lives, and we at CEMEX fully support these aims."
