Council grant paves the way for Family Fun Day
A CHURCH hosts a Community and Family Fun Day next month thanks to a grant from Rugby Borough Council.
20 August 2014
The fun day at St Peter and St John's Church takes place on Saturday 6 September, and includes a circus skills workshop, face-painting, music, stalls and inflatables.
The event has been organised to relaunch the church hall in St Peter's Road - which has undergone a refurbishment over the summer - and promote the facilities on offer to the community.
The church secured a £1,000 voluntary and community organisations grant from the council to help run the fun day.
Sheila Bridge, the recently appointed minister in charge of St Peter and St John's, said: "We hope our Community and Family Fun Day will help put us on the map.
"We'd like more groups from our community to make use of the church hall, as it's suitable for meetings, parties, classes and music rehearsals.
"We invite people to come along to the fun day, look inside our lovely building and tell us about ways we can better serve our community."
The fun day runs from 10am to 4pm, with a nearly new sale taking place from 10am to 12 noon.
At 1pm pupils from St Andrew's Benn Primary School perform a Pop UK Concert, while the circus skills workshop - open to anyone over eight-years-old - runs from 2pm to 4pm. Places at the workshop can be booked from 10am, at a cost of £3.
Cllr Leigh Hunt, Rugby Borough Council portfolio holder for sustainable communities, said: "The council has awarded nearly £245,000 in grants to community and voluntary organisations this year - money which makes a real difference to Rugby.
"I'm delighted we've been able to support the Community and Family Fun Day and help St Peter and St John's Church promote the benefits the church hall can bring to the wider community."
