If approved, the council will adopt a new organisational structure that will support the council’s plans to bring economic prosperity and deliver on its climate change targets. It is part of a range of measures aimed at speeding up the council’s transformation into a lean, customer-focused organisation that is better able to work with residents, councillors and community organisations.
The structure protects front-line and lower-paid jobs and will see new strategic leadership roles across eight groups of services. There will be no increase in costs and no redundancies are proposed.
The proposal will be considered at a meeting of the council to be held tomorrow night (Thursday 26 November).
Cllr Seb Lowe, Leader of Rugby Borough Council, said:
We are very aware that the covid-19 pandemic has brought many challenges for our communities, and we must take steps now to make sure that we are able to support our borough through recovery.
“We will need to make transformational changes to meet our climate change targets and deliver on our residents’ aspirations.
“A new organisational structure is the first step of this wider transformational programme.
“Most importantly this structure will be introduced while protecting front-line jobs.”
Mannie Ketley, Executive Director of Rugby Borough Council, said: “This council has led its communities through the pandemic with rapid, responsive support targeted at the communities most in need. That will need to continue, but this community-led approach must also be embedded across our services.
By building on the new ways of working that we have adopted through the pandemic we can collaborate with residents, health services and voluntary and community organisations to shape our borough to be a place our residents are proud of.
“And by making these changes now, we can be ready for future challenges as they arise.”
If approved, the new structure will come into effect early in 2021. A wider transformational programme will then be brought back to councillors for further consideration.
