Council to request review of number of councillors
An extraordinary meeting of Rugby Borough Council has resolved to apply to the Local Government Boundary Commission (LGBC) for a possible reduction in the number of councillors.
01 April 2014
The council debated the issue at a special meeting held last night (31 March 2014), after it was first raised in the budget resolution passed by councillors on 25 February 2014.
There are currently 42 councillors on Rugby Borough Council, and the meeting decided to ask the LGBC to explore reducing that number to around 30-35. The council will need to be able to demonstrate to the LGBC that the reduced number of councillors will still be able to represent their electors and be able to carry out their duties effectively and efficiently.
If the LGBC accept a request for a review, councillors will need to consider the application in more detail at a later date before any changes come into effect.
