Court supports planning approval for Elliott's Field redevelopment

Rugby Borough Council's decision to grant planning permission for a major redevelopment of the Elliott's Field Retail Park has been supported by the High Court.

The court rejected all six grounds of a judicial review brought by CBRE Lionbrook, the owners of Rugby's Clock Towers shopping centre.

Cllr Heather Timms, Rugby Borough Council portfolio holder for the economy, planning and culture, said: "I'm very pleased that the courts agree that our decision to grant planning permission was sound on all six points that were raised. It was a good decision as far as the law is concerned, and it was a good decision for our residents. It is, however, tremendously disappointing that the development has been delayed by this court action.

"The judge refused CBRE Lionbrook permission to appeal the decision, and I hope that this multi-national company will now respect the democratic decision of the local authority, and the decision of the court, and allow this development to go ahead for the benefit of our residents.

"I have always made it clear that I believe both the Elliott's Field development and the proposed improvements to the Clock Towers will benefit the borough, and I sincerely hope that both will go ahead soon."

Rugby Borough Council's planning committee resolved to grant Hammerson's planning permission for the development on 22 May 2013.
