The Indian Social Club team presented Cllr Anthony Gillias with a cheque for
£151 during a recent visit to the Mayor's Parlour.
The team, based at the
Indian Community Centre in Edward Street, has competed in the Rugby and District
Darts League for more than 25 years.
The cash was raised throughout the
season by fining players for a variety of oche misdemeanours, including low
scores and missing the board.
The team has raised nearly £1,000 for good
causes in recent years, and decided to make this year's donation to the Mayor's
charity - St Cross Prostate Cancer Care.
The charity aims to launch a
prostate cancer clinic at Rugby's Hospital of St Cross, reducing the time it
takes to provide a diagnosis and helping patients avoid trips to Coventry's
University Hospital during the early stages of treatment.
Cllr Gillias
said: "I am extremely grateful to the Indian Social Club darts team for this
generous donation to St Cross Prostate Cancer Care.
"It's important to
have diagnostic facilities at St Cross, together with help and support from
health professionals.
"A successful appeal will speed up diagnosis and
mean local men no longer have to travel to Coventry for
tests."
