PLANS to expand the gym at Rugby's new leisure centre have been confirmed - just six months after the centre opened its doors.

Record numbers of visitors have flocked to the Queen's Diamond Jubilee Centre since it opened at the end of August - with figures released this week revealing large increases in the number of residents who have become members, go for a swim, or visit the gym.
The £12 million centre welcomed 52,250 visitors in January - up 20 per cent compared to the number of visitors to the Ken Marriott Leisure Centre during January 2013.
Nearly 10,500 visitors took the plunge in the centre's swimming pool during January - a rise of more than 60 per cent on last year's figure, while nearly 12,250 visits were made to the centre's gym - a rise of 40 per cent.
Swim and gym monthly memberships also increased by nearly 50 per cent during the month - prompting GLL, the charitable social enterprise which runs the centre under the Better brand, to bring forward plans to expand the gym.
An extra 15 exercise stations will be added in March, together with a new training area.
Rob Wood, GLL's partnership manager, said: "We're delighted that since opening demand for the Queen's Diamond Jubilee Centre has exceeded all our expectations.
"We are pleased to announce that Better are improving the impressive gym and adding another 15 exercise stations.
"This will include an OMNIA functional area which will enable members to vary their workout and offer the opportunity for instructors to run small group fitness classes in the gym."
The council built the Queen's Diamond Jubilee Centre to replace the 40-year-old Ken Marriott Leisure Centre.
The new centre has a 25m pool, a separate studio pool with moveable floor, a six court sports hall, gym, feature climbing wall, a dance and martial arts studio, and a cafe.
Cllr Heather Timms, Rugby Borough Council portfolio holder for economy, development and culture, said: "I am delighted the Queen's Diamond Jubilee Centre has proved so popular with visitors during its first six months, and GLL have brought forward plans to expand the gym.
"By choosing to invest in a modern and innovative centre, the council has ensured residents can enjoy some of the best leisure facilities in the Midlands."
