The service at St Andrew's Church was held for the refugees who have made Rugby home since fleeing Ukraine following Russia's invasion a year ago.

Cllr Carolyn Watson-Merret, Mayor of Rugby, attended the service, which was followed by a procession through the town centre, with the Ukrainian families carrying flags and banners.

On arrival at the Town Hall, Cllr Watson-Merret hosted a reception in the Mayor's Parlour, where guests enjoyed a cream tea and sandwiches before taking a tour of the council chamber.

Cllr Watson-Merret said: "It was an honour to join the service of remembrance and hope at St Andrew's Church and share the occasion with so many of the Ukrainian families who have been welcomed to Rugby since the war started.

"More than 200 Ukrainians have sought refuge in the borough under the Homes for Ukraine scheme and I was delighted to welcome so many of our guests and their hosts in Rugby to the Mayor's Parlour, and recommit our support for, and solidarity with, the people of Ukraine."
