Microchip your dog for free at Dog ID Day

DOGS can be microchipped for free next week at a Dog ID Day.
25 July 2014
The event, organised by the council's dog warden team, takes place in Caldecott Park on Friday 1 August.

In addition to the free microchipping service, dogs can have a free health check from Vets 4 Pets while owners can find out about joining the council's volunteer dog warden team.

Visitors to the event can also find out about the work of dog charity Rugby Pawprints, and receive advice from the dog warden team on responsible dog ownership.

From April 2016, new laws mean all dogs in England must be microchipped. Owners who fail to microchip a dog face a £500 fine.

Cllr Dr Mark Williams, Rugby Borough Council portfolio holder for sustainable environment, said: "More than 100,000 dogs are lost, stolen or abandoned in England every year.

"Microchipping is a simple solution which gives owners piece of mind and makes dogs easier to trace if lost or stolen.

"The council works hard to promote responsible dog ownership, and a responsible dog owner should have their dog microchipped.

"The Dog ID Day is a great opportunity to get it done for free, while picking up advice on responsible dog ownership from the experts."

The Dog ID Day takes place at the park's bandstand from 11am to 4pm.
