The new housing development located at Webb Ellis Place, off Wood Street, is the latest acquisition of properties for residents and will see eight two-bedroom and four one-bedroom flats added to the council’s housing stock.

The properties have been purchased by the council from the developer and will be made available to rent to families on the housing register. The purchase was made from the council's Housing Acquisition Fund, which includes Right to Buy receipts and capital from the council's Housing Revenue Account.

The four-storey block, which is serviced by a lift, was largely built during the Queen's Platinum Jubilee year and has been formally named Platinum House.

Michelle Dickson, Rugby Borough Council Chief Officer for Communities and Homes, said:

We are committed to increasing the supply of affordable housing across the borough and meeting the housing needs of our residents – now and in the future.

"We are pleased that the acquisition of Platinum House is now complete, as the block will provide affordable, modern and accessible homes for our residents.

"It’s important that any homes we build or purchase take into account environmental issues and are energy efficient for our tenants.

"Living in a warm and energy efficient home is not only better for our planet, but it will also reduce costs to run the property, offering affordable warmth to our tenants."

The fully accessible properties are located close to the railway station and nearby bus routes, and offer an easy walk or cycle to town centre shops and the Elliot's Field and Junction One retail areas.

The flats have been fitted out with white goods including cookers, fridges and washing machines using funding from the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.

Michelle Dickson added:

With the cost of living increasing so much over the last year, the White Goods project has given tenants at Platinum Court the best possible start to their new tenancies."

The first tenants moved into the properties on 26 June 2023.
