Rugby Borough Council gets award for small businesses support
The award was for the council's work on generating wealth for the economy before, during and after the Rugby World Cup.
At the Federation of Small Businesses annual ‘Small Business Engagement’ lunch Ian Davis, Rugby Borough Council Executive Director, accepted the award on behalf of the borough council.
The awards provided an opportunity for all councils in Coventry, Warwickshire and Solihull to make known any project or initiative that promotes and champions local economic development.
Paul Miles Rogers, FSB Warwickshire and Coventry Chairman said: “Rugby Borough Council's application detailed a specific campaign that had a measurable impact on the local economy, both at the time and with a legacy that will last for years.
This was an example of ‘over and above the day job’ for the council, an opportunity that they exploited on an international scale.”
Cllr Michael Stokes, Leader of Rugby Borough Council, said: “With at least three pounds spent in the Rugby economy for every pound we invested, it was clear that our Rugby World Cup 2015 events and activities were right for Rugby.
"I am delighted that small businesses benefited and am especially pleased that they have chosen to recognise our Rugby World Cup programme with this award.
"With the World Rugby Hall of Fame due to open in Rugby later this year, the legacy from this programme is set to continue.”
