Rugby in Bloom 2016The council has launched this year's Rugby in Bloom contest, which supports the borough's entry for the Britain in Bloom 2016 finals.

Rugby secured a prestigious place in the finals after striking double gold at the 2015 Heart of England in Bloom Awards - winning the small city category for an eighth year in a row and crowned overall winner.

Rugby in Bloom encourages residents, schools and businesses to make the borough blossom over the summer - with a host of categories catering for gardeners of all ages and experience.

This year's contest promotes the 'Enjoy Rugby' theme and celebrates the Queen's 90th birthday and the council's successful edible borders project.

Categories for residents include best small garden, organic vegetable plot, allotment and first time entrant.

Meanwhile businesses categories include best shop, pub, hotel, garden centre, community building and place of worship.

Schools, nurseries and playgroups can also enter.

Application forms, and more information about this year's Rugby in Bloom, can be found at www.rugby.gov.uk/rugbyinbloom

All entries must be received by Monday 4 July.

Cllr Lisa Parker, Rugby Borough Council portfolio holder for sustainable environment, said: "Rugby in Bloom brings our communities together to make the borough a brighter, better place every summer.

"With our place in the finals of Britain in Bloom, I'd encourage everyone to play a part in making the borough look blooming marvellous when the judges visit in August."

The Britain in Bloom Awards take place at Birmingham's Edgbaston Cricket Ground in October.
